Thomas Jr Triumphs at Tri-State’s Haubstadt Hustler

INDIANAPOLIS (Sep. 19, 2017) – After a disappointing loss to Kyle Cummins, during USAC’s Sprint Week visit to the Tri-State Speedway, Thomas was determined to not let history repeat itself. This time the tables were reversed and Cummins would end up second, as Alabama native, Kevin Thomas Jr., claimed his second Haubstadt Hustler title, alongside a $12,500 pay day.

“All I could think was ‘Not again,’” laughed Thomas. “I’m really glad it turned out differently this time. Kyle Cummins is great at this place. He’s fun to race with, and races clean. He was the first person to congratulate me when I got out of the car. That’s how racing should be. I also want to thank the guys at Unique Breedz for adding to the purse, and the cool wall hanging that went to the winner.”

After running out of fuel on the final lap of the race, Thomas was able to make a last corner charge to defeat Cummins by a mere 0.053 seconds at the start finish line. With newly hired crew chief, Davey Jones, on the wrenches, Thomas captured his 4th USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car victory this season, and his 16th sprint car win in 2017.

“I have to thank Brad Alexander and Davey Jones for having this car dialed in tonight,” explained Thomas. “We’ve had an incredible year thus far, and are looking to finishing it off just as strong. I will say though; I’m buying a bigger fuel tank tomorrow. That was way too close.”

The KT Motorsports No.9k will be back in action with the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Cars at the famed Eldora Speedway for the “4-Crown Nationals” Saturday, September 23rd.

Kevin Thomas Jr. would like to thank the following sponsors; Abreu Vineyards, KT Construction Services, Jeff’s Jam-It-In Storage, DRC Chassis, Speedway Engines, CSI Shocks, Bell Helmets, Indy Metal Finishings, Mobil1, BOSCH, Hinchman Racing Uniforms, Gridsport, High Side Design, and MPI.
