INDIANAPOLIS (Jun. 20, 2017) – Kevin Thomas Jr. led all but one lap during Thursday night’s USAC feature event at the historic Williams Grove Speedway, where he captured his first USAC National win of the season. Thomas, who now has a total of eight wins this season in multiple race cars, is now among the top 40 all time USAC series win list with 13 National victories.

“We’ve had some solid wins on the local race scene, but it feels really good to get a USAC win under our belts, and there is no better place to do it than Williams Grove,” said Thomas. “There’s a lot of moving parts that make this race team work, and I appreciate everyone involved.”

Thomas led the first half of the race, as he pounded the top groove. A hard charging Chris Windom took the lead on lap 16, but it was quickly recovered by Thomas on the next circuit. Thomas, who celebrated a birthday just one day prior, dominated the last 14 revolutions parking the KT Motorsports/Abreu Vineyards/Pace Performance Coatings No.44 in victory lane.

“I’m learning to make smart decisions on the race track,” explained Thomas. “I used to be a hot-head. I mean sometimes I still am, but I didn’t let Windom getting by me fluster me. I was patient, and he showed me the bottom groove was good so I moved down. I haven’t been that great on big tracks in the past. My guys, Brad Alexander and Robert Brown Jr. have really helped me focus on doing better at these type tracks. We went quick time and now hold the track record at Knoxville (Raceway) so I’m starting to get more comfortable at these big places. A win a Williams Grove is incredible.”

The Alabama native moved into the top spot in USAC Eastern Storm points after the victory at Williams Grove Speedway. With an eighth-place finish at Port Royal Speedway, Thomas fell to second in Easter Storm standings. Thomas missed winning the overall points by a 4 point deficit to Chris Windom after Susquehanna’s finale.
