Thomas Claims 9th Victory of the Season at Lincoln Park
INDIANAPOLIS (Jul. 5, 2017) – Kevin Thomas Jr. kicked of his Fourth of July race weekend with an MSCS victory at Lincoln Park Speedway in his own No.9k. This was the first race of the year sporting the driver’s own number in his family owned car.
“We had a good racecar,” stated Thomas. “Apparently, I jumped the restart according to (Thomas) Meseraull. I guess you have to try it, and if they call it back, they call it back, but it was a good restart. We had a good race car, and started catching him(Meseraull) there at the end. I’m not saying that we had the better racecar, he’s a good racer, but we kind of figured out a line while he was up there in the lead. You can’t really search around when you’re leading. Once we got the lead I was able to run the bottom in turns one and two. There was moisture down there, and it was a little rough, but throughout the race it blew off and got smoother.”
Thomas started off the night behind the eight ball in group qualifying, where he timed in 6th out of 8 cars in his group. He quickly rebounded with a heat race win from the 6th starting position. The feature invert was a zero, putting Thomas starting 5th in the field of 21 cars. After several cautions, Thomas took over the lead from Meseraull with 7 laps remaining, and brought home the win.
“They gave me a great race car. So much went on behind the scenes to get this car ready for this weekend. I have to thank Brad and Robert for all their help at the shop and the track. We kind of started up a new team in a short amount of time. It’s pretty fun to get wins like this, and get ready for sprint week.”
Kevin Thomas Jr. would like to thank the following sponsors: Abreu Vineyards, Bell Helmets, BOSCH, CSI Shocks, DRC Chassis, Gridsport, Hinchman Racing Uniforms, High Side Design, Indy Metal Finishing, Indy Race Parts, KT Construction Services, KTi, MPI, and Wilwood Brakes.
