INDIANAPOLIS (Jun. 5, 2017) – After an all-night drive back to Indiana from USAC competition at Knoxville Raceway, where Kevin Thomas Jr. set Quick Time and a new track record, the Alabama native found himself in BC’s Victory Lane at Kokomo Speedway.
“We rolled up to Kokomo Speedway with no sleep, a dirty car, in gym shorts and flip flops, drinking sweet tea, and won the race,” laughed Thomas. “No matter where you’re at, on Sundays, ‘You Get Your Ass To Kokomo’. We raced 4 nights, in 4 different states this weekend, but there’s no place I’d rather be Sunday afternoon.”
The KT Motorsports No.44 won their heat race from the third starting spot. An interesting redraw landed Thomas rolling off the feature grid in second starting position. Justin Grant would get out to the lead early, Thomas would cross the line in first at the drop of the checkered flag.
“On Tuesday at 11:00pm this car was just a frame,” said Thomas “Brad Alexander and Robert Brown hustled so hard to help me get this thing together so we could go to I-80 and Knoxville. We showed some serious speed all weekend, but didn’t get the feature results we should have. It feels really good to end the weekend with a win. These guys deserve it. I’m thankful to have them.”
Thomas, who is running the Pace Brother’s Racing No.44 in USAC competition around Indiana and Ohio, is carrying the No.44 over to his personal team car for now, to continue contending in the owner points championship. The Pace Brothers machine will carry the original black and blue scheme, while Thomas’s personal car will showcase a black and red scheme.
“I really have to thank Dan Pace for letting me get in his car this year,” said Thomas. “He’s even helped me get my own car together, and let me use his trailer. I’m happy to carry the No.44 on my car for him. It’s been fun running for Dan, and I’m grateful for what he’s done for me.”
