Swanson Victorious at Ted Horn 100
INDIANAPOLIS (Sep. 7, 2017) – It’s been 7 years since Kody Swanson won a USAC National Silver Crown race at Du Quoin State Fairgrounds, where the Kingsburg, California, native scored his first ever national crown car victory. That all changed over the holiday weekend as Swanson sealed the deal once again in the DePalma Motorsports/ Radio Hospital/Hampshire Racing Engines No.63.
““To have a chance to win any Silver Crown race is a neat opportunity,” explained Swanson. “To drive this car and win for this team is special no matter where it is. We’ve been fast here a number of times, but just couldn’t catch the breaks. There’s a lot that can happen that can take you out of a Silver Crown race. That’s why they’re so special when you do get them.”
Swanson started from the 8th position in the field of 32 cars. The two time USAC National Silver Crown champ took the lead from Jeff Swindell in lap traffic with 9 circuits remaining. After clearing lapped traffic, Swanson went on to win by 5 seconds over second-place Shane Cockrum and third-place Jeff Swindell. This is Swanson’s 4th Silver Crown win in 2017.
“These miles get pretty narrow and that makes lapped traffic unpredictable and tough to navigate,” said Swanson. “I knew I had to make good decisions or Jeff would have the opportunity to get back by me. I split two lapped cars, which isn’t always the smartest decision, but it worked in my favor this time.”
DePalma Motorsports and Swanson have two weekends off from crown car competition before heading to Eldora Speedway for the “4-Crown Nationals.”
