INDIANAPOLIS (Sep. 19, 2017) – Swanson, a typical hot-shoe in Silver Crown competition, stole the show at Lawrenceburg Speedway with a win in the Gene Nolen Racing machine. The first night in a fresh Maxim Chassis proved triumphant for the familiar yellow No.20 sprinter.
“I’m thankful for the opportunity to drive this Nolen No.20 sprint car, and to race with a such a hard-working group,” commented Swanson. “This place can be a challenge for me, but we had a really good car. I was able to hustle up on the bank like you’re supposed to. There are a lot of great people on this team, and I’m glad to share Victory Lane with them tonight.”
Swanson, who has previously driven for Nolen Racing during this year’s Little 500 at Anderson Speedway, got his first chance to pilot the dirt sprint car for the legendary car owner. The two-time USAC Silver Crown Champion traded the lead with Nick Bilbee for the first three or four laps, and eventually solidified his spot out front. Swanson endured three red flags during the feature, and on the final restart, with 7 laps remaining, the No.20 seemed to get tight, bouncing through the rough surface, but would hold on to win over Simon, Gaines, Andretti, and Bilbee.
“I’ve driven for Gene (Nolen) before, and it’s an absolute blast,” said Swanson. “He gave me an opportunity to run his pavement sprint car at the Little 500 this year, and I’m thankful he gave me a shot at his dirt sprint car tonight. It’s always fun getting wins in different cars, and on different surfaces.”
Swanson returns to Silver Crown action this weekend during the 4-Crown Nationals at Eldora Speedway.
