INDIANAPOLIS (Jun. 20, 2017) – Kody Swanson moved into second place on the all-time win list after scoring his 17th career series win during Friday’s “Horn-Schindler Memorial” at Williams Grove Speedway. Swanson showed patience and aggression to take the lead over a dominate Damion Gardner, to win at the historic mile.

“It’s a pretty special territory to be in,” said Swanson. “I don’t know if I feel like we belong, but I’m thankful to be a part of it. Brian and Jack had so many huge Silver Crown wins. I guess we’re racking up our own little list here. I don’t know if there’s ever been a more storied racer than Jack Hewitt. Also, I was a teammate to Brian Tyler for a little while at the beginning of my Silver Crown career. I feel pretty well connected to those two guys.”

Swanson, who had a disappointing qualifying run, started 7th on the grid. The Kingburg, California native began tracking down fellow West Coast native Damion Gardner, who had been dominating throughout practice, qualifying, and in the main event. Swanson vigilantly started working his way through the field, passing second place Justin Grant on lap 62. From there, the two-time Silver Crown champion would set his sights on leader Damion Gardner. Swanson took the lead on lap 83

“I put the team behind after a less than stellar qualifying run,” said Swanson. “I knew Damion was running a similar line as me, and I figured out from tracking Justin (Grant), once they moved to the same spot, it’s so hard to get a run and get beside him without jeopardizing our race and wrecking us both. With less than 20 to go it was time to get creative. I tried the same move three times and the third time was a charm. I’m still learning and working really hard. The DePalma Motorsports guys always give me a really good car. They work really hard, so I’m going to work hard for them and try to get better. To be second all-time is incredible. For me being a guy who’s not supposed to be winning at Williams Grove, it’s pretty cool to be able to figure it out and beat some of the best dirt guys in the nation, and to get it done at such a historic track.”

Swanson and DePalma Motorsports will be back in action July 20th for the “USAC Hall of Fame / Rich Vogler Classic” at Brownsburg, Indiana’s Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis.
