Johnson Scores Back-to-Back Wins

INDIANAPOLIS (Jul. 24, 2018) – Kaleb Johnson picked up a pair of wins over the weekend at Eagle Raceway and Clay County Fair Speedway. The South Dakota native has been hungry for a win at Eagle’s 1/3-mile dirt oval, and Saturday night he fed that hunger.

Johnson finished 3rd in the heat race, making the feature invert, and would start 6th in the main event. By lap 3, the driver of the No.22 had made his way into 3rd running the bottom. A few laps later the caution flag would fly, putting Johnson behind the leaders, who were also running the bottom. On the restart, Johnson blasted the top groove, taking the lead on lap 9, and never looking back. Johnson would hold off second place finishing, Adam Gullion, and points leader, Tyler Drueke.

“Eagle Raceway has some of the toughest 305 competition in the country,” explained Johnson. “We have struggled pretty bad there this year, so being able to win against those guys was a huge relief. I have wanted to win there so bad over the years, which just made it that much more special.”

A 7th to 4th place run in the heat race at Clay County Fair Speedway set Johnson up for a good redraw spot. The track conditions were a lot heavier than usual, but made for good racing. Johnson would start on the outside pole for the feature event, fall back to 3rd on lap 3, but stayed patient, and utilized the bottom right around the tires to gain speed. By lap 6 Johnson had passed Matt Richards for 2nd place. On laps 8 & 9 Johnson would swap the lead with Brady Forbrook, before securing his position up front and bringing home his second victory of the weekend.

“Brady and I had a good battle for the lead for a few laps,” commented Johnson. “He’s a good, clean, and talented driver, which makes it more fun to race with him. My dad doesn’t get to see me race all the time because of his job, so having him along with us both nights was so cool.”

Johnson is back in action this weekend at Jackson Motorplex Friday night, and Eagle Raceway Saturday night.
