Faccinto Claims Cotton Classic Win; Prepares for Trophy Cup
INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 19, 2017) – Mitchell Faccinto scored his first career 410 victory over the weekend at his home track of Keller Auto Speedway. Faccinto, who inherited the point after leader Dominic Scelzi had mechanical issues on the late restart, fended off second-place Kyle Hirst, and third-place Bud Kaeding to claim the 2017 Cotton Classic title.
“We qualified 9th, which put us on the front row of a heat race,” explained Faccinto. “I won the heat race, and picked up a row in the dash to start third in the feature. We jumped right into second place. The track was pretty tricky with the holes and rough spots. The bottom was safer, and held more moisture than I expected to start the race. With about five laps to go, I caught lap traffic, and moved back to the top just to keep my momentum up. The car worked just as good up there. My dad and Drew gave me a car that was comfortable, and fast in both groves on the track.”
Fresh off a win, Faccinto is set to make his fourth appearance at the Southwest Contractors 24th Annual Trophy Cup at Tulare’s Thunderbowl Raceway. The Hanford, California, native has a career best finish of third at the event in 2015, where he also finished 6th in points.
“Getting my first 410 win at my home track was a pretty cool moment, and now I’m definitely ready for this weekend,” commented Faccinto “I’m looking forward to keeping our momentum up, and head into Trophy Cup with some speed! As long as we stay out of trouble, and survive the first couple of nights, I know we’ll be in good position for the big show Saturday night.”
Faccinto, piloting the Stan Greenberg owned Western Metal Company No.37, will be in action at Thunderbowl Raceway tonight for night one of the Southwest Contractors 24th Annual Trophy Cup.
