Bernal Bounces Back with Top Five at Placerville

INDIANAPOLIS (Apr. 17, 2017) – After getting upside down in his heat race, Ryan Bernal bounced back to score a top five this past Saturday during the second round of the Sprint Car Challenge Tour (SCCT) event at Placerville Speedway. Sixty-three cars were in attendance, all vying for one of the coveted 22 starting spots.

Bernal laid down a lap time of 10.994 seconds to capture the Mike Phulps, Metal Works No. 56 a 5th place in qualifying. The Hollister, California driver would start in the 3rd positon for heat race number one. Bernal got upside down on lap 4 after hitting a rut and would be scored 12th.

The Phulps Motorsports crew quickly went to work making repairs and Bernal was able to win the semi from a 2nd place starting spot, transferring him into the feature event. Bernal would start 13th on the grid of a 22-car field.

Bernal would quickly find himself edging into the top ten. With several yellows in his favor, he worked his way up to the 7th position by the halfway point. Bernal charges by Willie Croft and Mason Moore to seize his 5th Top 5 of the year.

“Turning over in the heat race kind of put us behind,” said Bernal. “We got everything fixed, won the B-main, and made it into the feature. I have to thank Mike, John and Kerry for giving me a good car and getting me back out on the track. We’ve already had a lot of good results this year.”
