INDIANAPOLIS (Jun. 12, 2017) – After a full year of countless runner-up and podium finishes, Spencer Bayston finds himself back in USAC National victory lane. Bayston rim-rode the top groove around Kokomo Speedway to capture the final night of USAC’s Indiana Midget Week feature event.
“To get it done tonight at my favorite track, it’s a great feeling and my car was so phenomenal and so stable up front on the cushion,” expressed Bayston. “I was so close to the win at Lawrenceburg, and pretty disappointed when it didn’t pan out. We’ve had fast cars each and every night, so it feels good to be back on top of the podium.”
Bayston tested the waters during the heat race, charging from a 5th place starting position to win. During the feature event Bayston battled with Tyler Courtney, who was working the bottom portion of the racing surface, while Bayston pounded the top. Courtney would challenge Bayston with three different lead changes, however Bayston would prevail and dominate the last 9 revolutions with a three second lead over second place finisher, and Midget Week Champion, Shane Golobic.
“I went to the bottom once to block Courtney, and to feel out what was there, but quickly realized I was better up top,” said Bayston. “I was running the top groove all night and that’s where my car felt most comfortable. I’m so pleased to get Keith Kunz and Toyota Racing another win. These guys work so hard and deserve it. I also want to thanks all the guys at the shop. They do a great job preparing these cars for us, and don’t always get the credit they deserve. Midget week is tough. They’re responsible for prepping up to 7 cars, and all do it all on little to no sleep. It takes an army and they do an incredible job.”
Bayston is headed to Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, with his Keith Kunz/Toyota Racing entry for two nights of USAC/ARDC competition.
Spencer Bayston would like to thank the following sponsors: Keith Kunz Motorsports, Toyota Racing, Bullet by Spike Chassis, Curb Records, Simpson Race Products, ButlerBuilt Professional Seat Systems.
