Bayston Bags a Win at Valley Speedway

INDIANAPOLIS (Jul. 18, 2017) –  Spencer Bayston, of Lebanon, Indiana, scores a win on the final night of the Inaugural “Thunder in the Valley” event with the POWRi midgets. Bayston was the high point guy and led every lap from the fall of the green flag to the waving of the checkers.

“After starting 8th in the heat race and finishing 2nd I knew that we would have a good starting spot for the feature and that the car was going to be fast,” explained Bayston. “I started on the pole and was able to use the thin strip of moisture on the very bottom of the track. I made sure in those first few laps I hit my marks so nobody could get underneath me. The cushion was all the way up on the edge of the track, and I knew you could carry speed up there. Every once in a while, I would hear someone on the top behind me, but until someone drove around me I told myself to stay on the bottom.”

Bayston, who remained unchallenged for the majority of the race, rolled the bottom of the track to claim his 6th POWRi feature win and his 5th midget victory of the season. After a number of cautions and an eventual red flag, Bayston beat out teammate Tanner Thorson, Zach Daum, Kyle Schuett, and Jonathan Beason, rounding out the top five.

“Throughout the race I was able to adjust the car as the track started to get more and more slick,” said Bayston. “Under the cautions Keith and Big Al were telling me where they were behind me and if they were closing. The final restart I was able to stick the bottom and got away from Daum and Thorson who were battling behind me. Working the bottom like that is definitely not my specialty but we will take a win any way we can. I would like to thank everyone at KKM and Toyota racing for all they do for me and this team. This is an excellent way head into Kansas with some momentum, and confidence.”

Bayston and the Keith Kunz Motorsports fleet prepare for four nights of USAC National Midget competition as they head to Fairbury, Nebraska, August 1st, and Beloit, Kansas, August 2nd, before two nights at the Belleville High Banks for the famed Belleville Midget Nationals.

Spencer Bayston would like to thank the following sponsors: Keith Kunz Motorsports, Toyota Racing, Bullet by Spike Chassis, Curb-Agajanian Curb Records, Simpson Race Products, ButlerBuilt Professional Seat Systems.
